The expanded controller support makes it ideal for just about every device that you can download Microsoft Edge on. For example, the latest version comes with a high score board and even more ways to control the experience, thanks to keyboard, mouse, touch, and also gamepad support. Devereux also pointed out the Edge team has improved the features overall. Visually, the game is a significant improvement compared to Chrome’s dinosaur game, although that’s just the start.

If the game looks familiar than it should with Devereux confirming the offline surf game is based off SkiFree - a skiing game released in 1991 as part of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack 3 for Windows. When using one of the supported channels (and currently not connected to the internet), the game can be accessed by typing "edge://surf" into the URL bar. In addition, it is expected to keep filtering down the different Edge channels until it eventually reaches all users.

While the game was previously used as a means to promote the new logo, it has now been added as a permanent fixture to both the Canary and Developer channels.

Microsoft Edge’s Senior Program Manager, William Devereux, has taken to Twitter to confirm the surf game is now available to more Edge users. Google added the dinosaur game to Chrome back in 2014 and it remains a staple part of the offline browser experience to this day. Google Chrome is pretty well-known for offering a feature like this with its Dino endless runner game where all the user has to do is jump. Making available an offline browser game is nothing new, although Microsoft appears to have taken the whole idea to the next level.

Microsoft Edge users without an internet connection now have the option to fill the time with a new surfing game.
